  3. A user has 1 or more overdue recalled items

B. Renewals

Borrowed items with normal loan periods may be renewed in “My Circulation Record”, please refer to maximum loan period (with renewal).  The new due date will be calculated from the date of renewal.

Automatic renewal:
Library items with normal loan periods will be automatically renewed 2 days before the due date until the maximum loan period has been reached.

Renewal will NOT be accepted if:

  1. An item has reached its maximum loan period
  2. An item cannot be renewed (e.g. a short loan item, an external reader card, a bound serial)
  3. A user has long overdue books or over $200 unpaid library fines

C. Reserving Books

All checked-out books can be requested at Discover@ShueYan. You will be notified once the book is available.

D. Recall Items

Books with a normal loan period (staff: 180 days; postgraduates & research assistants: 120 days; undergraduates & International Foundation Year Programme (IFYP) Students: 90 days) are subjected to be recalled once another user has reserved them.

If the books are recalled, the original loan period will be shortened. The Library will send a recall notice to inform the current borrower about the change of due date. Please always check your email notifications.

You are responsible for the return of recalled items.

Overdue fines will be charged if items are not returned before the new due date.

E. Circulation Notices

All overdue, courtesy, recall, hold pick-up, and cancellation notices are sent to users’ email addresses. Please regularly check your email accounts.

F. Book Detection System

A book detection system is installed on the G/F. This system can detect Library materials that have not been checked out properly.
