The Library is pleased to launch the following databases:
1. China from Empire to Republic
China from Empire to Republic is a multi-module digitization and publishing program that documents China’s transformation from an imperial dynasty into a modern republic. Consisting of monographs, manuscripts, periodicals, correspondence and letters, photos, and other kinds of historical documents, these collections provide excellent primary source material for the understanding and research of the various aspects of China during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Two parts are included:
Missionary, Sinology, and Literary Periodicals (1817-1949);
Records of the Maritime Customs Service of China 1854-1949
2. International Herald Tribune Historical Archive 1887-2013
This archive includes The New York Herald, European Edition followed by the New York Herald Tribune and finally the International Herald Tribune, retracing the history of the 20th century from luxury travel and opulent entertainment, to international conflicts, the spread of American culture abroad and globalization. This American newspaper published in Paris had an independent editorial spirit throughout and offers a strong focus on objective reporting of international news.
3. The Sunday Times Digital Archive 1822-2016
Since 1822, The Sunday Times has provided thoughtful analysis and commentary on the week’s news and society at large. Murder, theatre, sport and politics – all collide in its pages in an abundance of glorious narrative detail. In more than 800,000 pages, The Sunday Times Digital Archive is a gateway to the greatest crimes, careers and culture of the last 180 years.
4. The Times Digital Archive 1785-
First published in 1785, The Times of London is widely considered to be the world’s ‘newspaper of record’. The Times Digital Archive allows users to search over 200 years of this invaluable historical source.
5. Times Literary Supplement Historical Archive 1902-
The complete online fully-searchable edition of the TLS from the first edition in 1902 onwards. This is the essential companion for studying and researching literary activity and critical opinion makers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The Library is pleased to launch the following database:
Bloomsbury Food Library
Bloomsbury Food Library provides the resource of food-related studies content for students, researchers and scholars studying food, on courses as wide-ranging as history, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, human geography, sustainability, agriculture, culinary arts, literary studies, political science, and development studies.
Bloomsbury Food Library offers cross-searchable access to a broad and expanding range of encyclopedias, references works, e-books, images, and more:
• Global coverage including Ken Albala’s Food Cultures of the World Encyclopedia and the Cambridge World History of Food
• Several major reference works including Bloomsbury’s Cultural History of Food in six volumes and key chapters from Food History: Critical and Primary Sources
• Ebooks by key authors in the field including Warren Belasco, Carol J. Adams, Anne Murcott, Rick Wilk, Fabio Parasecoli and Peter Jackson
• Image collections from leading institutions around the globe including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, USA.
