Purpose
To support research activity by obtaining materials which are not available
in the Hong Kong Shue Yan University Library.
Who is eligible to use Interlibrary Loan Service?
The Service is provided for academic staff, lecturers, postgraduate,
year 1-4 students who request the materials not acquired by the library.
What kind of materials are available?
1. Photocopies of journal articles
Requests will be sent to UGC libraries in Hong Kong. If the journal is
not available locally, the request will be sent to other overseas institutions.
2. Books
Book materials will be requested from local university libraries. If local
supply fails, the Library will request materials from overseas institutions.
(Please note that all book requests are provided for academic staff
only)
3. Others
Non-Printed or Non-circulating materials are not allowed for inter library
loan.
How do I submit requests?
Readers can go to 3/F
to fill in the Inter Library Service Request Form for each item
or submit by online (For academic
staff only). Complete and accurate information should be provided.
Can I cancel the request?
No cancellation is possible after the order has
been placed with the lending library / document supplier.
How much will the Library charge?
1. The Interlibrary Loan is a fee-based service. The charge
of each request is different which subject to the local and overseas libraries
ILL policy.
2. Reader is required to pay $50 deposit for each item. When the Library
receives the invoice from the requested institution, reader will be notified
whether it is necessary to pay the extra amount on top of $50, or he/she
can be partly refunded if the requested item is less then $50. All payment
transactions are to be done at 3/F.
3. Requests from academic staff and lecturers must be endorsed by the
Department Head. The charge will be deducted from the Department's library
budget.
Where do I go to collect the requested materials?
Books
When the item is ready to be collected, the Library will contact the reader
and provide a Request Number. He/She then brings this number to the requested
library to pick up the item in person. Please note that:
- The Library will not arrange staff to collect or return items for the
readers
- Reader must bring the collected item to the Library's Circulation
Counter to complete the checkout procedure. He/she has to return the item
to the requested library in person after finished using.
- Reader must contact the Library if he/she wishes to renew or returns.
- All books received from overseas institutions are to be collected at
the Libraryˇ¦s Circulation Counter
Journal articles
- The requested articles will be sent either in PDF format through email
or photocopies format by mail.
- Reader can go to 3/F to collect the requested item. If reader prefers
an electronic version, he/she needs a web browser that can handle forms,
tables, and, preferably, one that can handle frames. We recommend either
Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or greater or Microsoft Internet Explorer
version 3.0 or greater. Also, an Acrobat Reader (4.0 or above) is required.
